Homemade Face Oil Is Easier Than Making A Smoothie

  • Homemade face oil is easier than making a smoothie
  • Because it doesn’t contain water, you don’t need fancy preservatives or techniques - just mix and match your favorite oils
  • Save the $$$ and keep it 100% clean by making your own!

As you might already know from my founding story, I’m currently in the process of becoming a certified organic cosmetics formulator.  This involves using my kitchen to experiment with various formulations to make a wide range of homemade natural skincare products – starting with toners all the way to serums, moisturizers, face oils and body and hair products even.  Super exciting and so informative!  One of the things I learned early on in this two-year course is that homemade face oil is really, really easy to concoct – easier than making a smoothie.

One of the trickiest things about making your own skincare products is ensuring they don’t spoil and are preserved correctly.  The majority of water-containing products need to include a preservative system to guard against contamination from yeast, mold and bacteria. When your skincare product contains water (and most products do), it provides the ideal conditions for bacterial and fungal growth.  Therefore, making water-based products at home requires some careful thought and meticulous formulation, and maybe it’s not worth the headache and effort for most of us.  However, lucky for all of us, homemade face oil doesn’t need water (hair oil too).  Even without an elaborate preservative system, most homemade face oils can last anywhere from 6 months to two years.

There are many other reasons to genuinely consider homemade face oil. First, you can cut out unnecessary preservatives and fragrances and keep it pure and authentic to your values.  Look at even the most “organic” or “natural” brands’ face oil ingredients list.  They still contain a variety of ingredients that you can’t comprehend and most of them, in order to be conservative, do include preservatives and fragrances too, which are totally superfluous for a beautifully formulated homemade face oil. Second, you can save so much money – even with the highest-grade luxury ingredients, it typically doesn’t cost me more than $6-8 per bottle to make my own. Third, most oils are easy to combine and experiment with – it’s basically mixing and matching the oils that you love.  All you need to do is figure out which oils have the smell, texture, function you want, then mix together - no fancy equipment or lab manuals needed.  Considering there’s no washing or chopping of ingredients involved, seriously easier than making a smoothie.

Most ingredients are really easy to understand and buy – just try googling, “organic face oil wholesale.” In case you’re completely new to this but want to try, my favorite website to buy ingredients is here (you can buy smaller “sample” portions which might make it easier if you’re just starting out).

I’ve been using my special recipe to make homemade face oil for close to a year now and I love it. The first time I made it and used it, it reminded me of eating freshly baked cookies made from scratch.  Seriously, there’s a huge difference between how homemade feels versus store bought, even when it comes to skincare products.  I don’t think I would ever dish out the big bucks again to buy face oils that contain more fillers, fragrances, preservatives, and oils I don’t really like or connect with. Homemade face oil is so easy and more beneficial too.  Check out my exclusive recipe, try making your own and let me know what you think.
