Mindful Botox

Upon the recommendation of Dr. Moradi, I decided to try Botox to make my brows look more even. Normally, this is something I would’ve thought about and pondered back and forth for a few weeks or months even, but I felt strongly this time that I didn’t want anyone to do it but him. He showed me exactly where the Botox should go and it made sense. I figured it would be hard to explain all of this to my regular dermatologist. Also, after the consultation, he made me feel completely at ease and I was very confident in his talent. Sometimes, you just need to trust your gut, and my gut was telling me to trust Dr. Moradi.

The nurse numbed my face and rolled the needles out onto a tray. After the numbing cream, the doctor went to work. In case you don’t already know, I will try anything once.  Test everything and see what sticks – that has been my approach to skincare as well.  Part of what helps me take this explorative approach to skincare is my high pain tolerance. I wore my stoic non-flinching face as a badge of honor as the doctor worked the needle in and out. Honestly, I don’t think it hurts that much. It’s uncomfortable for sure - I mean, you are getting a needle to the face, but it’s tolerable.

Since it takes a while to set, I didn’t notice anything at first. A few days later though, I looked in the mirror and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel the need to draw my brows in to match. It was definitely a subtle change but my forehead looked smoother, tighter and actually had a glow to it. I was extremely pleased with the results.

For me, I approach everything in moderation.  The way I exercise, eat and also my approach to skincare is all about balance. Too little and there isn’t much benefit. On the other hand, too much could be too restrictive and stressful. I go for the things where I can find balance and sustainability, and that’s how I feel about the Botox I got. It was subtle, not too invasive and sustainable, should I choose to maintain it. Also, it helped fix an issue that has consistently bothered me.  Overall, I’m content with the results and my decision to do it.  

When it comes to your skincare routine and choices, make sure you’re being mindful and go for the things that feel right and authentic to you. No one decision is right for everyone. Instead of blindly following recommendations, make sure you think about your needs, concerns, values and philosophy when it comes to skincare and choose what will make you happy!
