Kybella Helped My Turkey Neck

By Susie

  • I tried Kybella for my turkey neck and it helped
  • Although non-invasive, the swelling after was intense and took a week of recovery
  • For me, in addition to mindfulness and self-love, testing and experimentation will always be vital elements of my skincare journey

I will try anything once.  Working in retail, I have cultivated this life philosophy that has brought me a lot of success.  Test everything (assuming relatively low risk) and see what sticks – you never know what might work.  That has been my approach to skincare as well.

My profile is something that has bothered me since my teens.  I’ve spent a lot of hours looking at my profile in the mirror staring at my saggy chin.  I realized no matter how much weight I lost or gained, my profile remained the same.  Years of wisdom and cultivating my overall skincare routine helped take the focus off a bit.  However, although I’ve learned to accept my turkey waddle, I have to be honest and admit that I still don’t like it.

During a visit to the dermatologist, she mentioned a cosmetic procedure called Kybella.  Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile. Also, rumor is that Khloe Kardashian became a spokesperson after getting great results.  I figured if it’s good enough for a Kardashian, it should be good enough for me, right?

During the process I received multiple small injections under my chin taking about 15-20 minutes.  It was not pleasant but I was numbed beforehand and the doctor was pretty quick and efficient.  I had been warned about the swelling that takes place afterwards.  But seeing it actually happen was intense and something I was not prepared for.  I literally looked like a bullfrog with a big bubble under my chin.

It took about a week for the swelling to go down.  Once it did, my chin started to feel and look noticeably tighter.  It’s a slow process that happens over time.  I went back to my dermatologist two months later to check in.  The before and after pictures were already pretty noticeable.  I decided to do a second session since typically 2-3 sessions is the norm and I was already seeing good results.

I’m done with the two sessions now.  Looking at the before and after pictures, even I can tell that the procedure was successful and helped significantly.  Unfortunately, I still haven’t been able to get the sculpted jawline I dream of.  Overall though, I’m happy with the results and have zero regrets.  I tried something new and it stuck.

As much as I wish I could love my chin for what it was, it’s something that’s been bothering me for decades.  The procedure wasn’t super invasive in my opinion so low risk and definitely worth it.  I don’t think there is a one size fits all solution for skincare, confidence and self-acceptance.  For me, in addition to mindfulness, self-love and a solid daily routine, testing and experimentation will always be vital elements of my skincare journey.
